All Software

This is a list of all the programs for which this site provides resources. The programs are grouped in the same menu-bar categories.

 

Text Processing

These programs are useful for writing code or just producing text documents in an UNIX environment.

Latex

A typesetting tool used in publishing articles, books, etc.

Pico

A plain text (ASCII) editing program.

Xedit

A text editor bundled with the
X Window System.

Xemacs

A full-featured, highly customizable open source text editor and application development system.

 

Mathematics Software

These programs are useful for designing and implementing mathematical algorithms.

Maple

A Computer Algebra System from Waterloo Maple Software (WMS).

Mathematica

A software system and computer language for use in numerical, symbolic, and graphical computations

Matlab

Provides core mathematics and advanced graphical tools for data analysis, visualization, and algorithm and application development.

Xmgr

A menu-driven program for 2D plotting that produces publication quality output. Also performs some data analysis.

 

Computer Aided Design (CAD)

These programs are useful for designing three dimensional models on the computer.

AutoCAD

A customizable 2D and 3D design and drafting environment and toolset.

ProEngineer

A parametric, solid-modeling system.

 

Utilities
These programs perform essential tasks within an UNIX environment, such as e-mail, File Transfer Protocol (ftp), and word processing. Some basic information about UNIX is provided here aswell.

Unix

A powerful file management system used on all acpub computers.

WS-FTP

Allows Windows users to move files between computers with appropriate security for the Internet.

AFS

A filesystem that enables co-operating hosts (clients and servers) to efficiently share filesystem resources across both local area and wide area networks

PINE

A Program for Internet News & Email - a tool for reading, sending, and managing electronic messages.

SSH

Provides same function as Telnet with far better security.

TIN

A threaded NNTP and spool based UseNet newsreader for a variety of platforms

X-win

Gives viewer ability to view UNIX graphics on a Windows system.

 

 

Others
These programs defied other categories but didn't deserve their own. HTML is the language used to produce webpages. Netscape is a browser which renders HTML.

HTML

Hyper Text Markup Language used for publishing documents on the World Wide Web.

Netscape

One of several full-feature browsers available for viewing HTML web pages.
